NEW Business Support Hotline 2020-06-08T16:23:27+00:00

To help B.C. businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the B.C. government, through the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness and the Government of Canada, through Western Economic Diversification Canada, have partnered with Small Business BC (SBBC) to launch a new B.C. Business COVID-19 Support Service.

SBBC is British Columbia’s premier resource centre for small business information and services, including business planning, financing, registration and any other issues related to starting and growing a business in B.C.

The service was announced this morning and will serve as a one-stop resource to answer pressing questions about support available to businesses from the provincial and federal governments, industry, and community partners during this time.

As part of the support service, a dedicated website – https://covid.smallbusinessbc.ca – will feature announcements from industry and community partners, as well as a variety of important resources, including webinars and practical tools. Advisors can be reached by phone toll-free at 1-833-254-4357, by email covid@smallbusinessbc.ca and live chat.

Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Support will be available in several languages and a call-back feature will be in place to help manage high call volumes.

SBBC will also continue to provide usual services, like access to expert business advisors, educational services, and free easy-to-use resources in the context of COVID-19.

The B.C. Business COVID-19 Support Service news release is available at: https://news.gov.bc.ca/22023

Finally, a summary of all identified supports for B.C. businesses affected by COVID-19 is being updated regularly and is available at: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/employment-business-and-economic-development/business-management/small-business/covid-19_small_business_supports.pdf

Midway Manor and protection for their residents and staff 2020-04-02T09:06:12+00:00

Just a note to update folks on the steps we have taken to protect the residents and staff at Parkview Manor, to make it the safest environment we possibly can. The Manor is currently home to 24 residents, all of whom are in the 65+ age category that is particularly susceptible to the COVID-19 virus. Because of this, we have been particularly aggressive in implementing restrictions designed to protect them, using ‘phases’ described in our Pandemic Plan, which has been updated for COVID-19 and approved by Interior Health.

Members of the board of directors are actively involved in keeping abreast of developments including communications with BC Housing, the Provincial Ministry of Health and Interior Health including participating in a daily conference call with Interior Health.  As well, other members of the board are on a phoning committee, keeping in touch with residents and their families.

We are currently at Phase 5, we closed access to the building on March 16, several days in advance of the provincial order; we are delivering meals to resident’s rooms, have enhanced cleaning occurring daily, we are working with McMynns to have residents groceries delivered and have arranged to have the residents mail picked up and delivered.  We are very grateful to McMynns Family Foods and the Midway Post Office for their support during this difficult time!
We are happy to report that we have had no cases of COVID-19 at Parkview Manor. 2 residents have made the decision to stay with family members for the duration of the pandemic, and one new resident has chosen to wait until the pandemic has run its course to move in. Although we are grateful that there have been no cases at Parkview, we are well aware that it would be foolish to relax now, and so are maintaining our enhanced protocols.

Our staff are wearing all the recommended protective gear and are working extraordinarily hard to keep our residents safe. They all deserve our full support and thanks, they’ve been awesome!

Our residents too have been real troopers, but probably need to hear from friends and relatives even more than usual. So, if you have a friend or relative at Parkview, please think about giving them a call – they will appreciate it!

COVID-19 – Q & A for Emergency Food Providers 2020-03-27T10:32:34+00:00

Your organization is an important service. Interior Health does not recommend suspending social services, including community emergency food provision such as food banks and soup kitchens. These services are essential for people who are experiencing poverty and homelessness, and food insecurity.

We realize that this handout may not address all of your concerns and we are working to have further resources available on a dedicated Interior Health web page soon.
