Midway’s Plans Big Day for July 1st Celebrations
CANADA DAY is a festival celebrating all that we are and all that we can become as a country. With that in mind, the village of Midway is preparing for a full day of events honouring our fine nation.
The day begins at 7 am with a breakfast hosted as a fundraiser by our hard-working Midway Volunteer Fire Department. That’s at the firehall right beside the village hall. It runs until 11am. If you can’t make that, or are getting hungry again as noon approaches, then why not come for lunch at the nearby Midway Thrift Store and Drop-in Centre, The Bridge. Hamburgers, hotdogs and a drink while be available free from 11 am until 2 pm.
Then, at 3 pm the Midway Canada Parade will happen. Starting from Boundary Central Secondary School it will then proceed joyfully through town to reach McMynn Park, the central location for all our remaining activities.
From 4-6 PM it’s time for games and karaoke provided by our Sultan of Sound, Randy Kappes, master of singing fun! Local crooners take note.
At 4:30 PM our Beer Garden opens in the park. Another fundraiser, this one for the Midway Splash Park Committee. Children are allowed in to be with their parents but, of course, following LCB rules. The gardens will remain open until 10 PM.
6-8PM. It’s time for DINNER! The Midway Community Club has a meal planned for up to 300 people. It’s pulled pork on buns with extra goodies. Again, it’s free but donations to the MCC towards their many community events and sponsored programs would be most appreciated.
We’re far from finished! At 7:30 pm until a little after 10 pm, there’s Musical Entertainment arranged and produced by none other than Midway’s audio expert, Rockin’ Ronnie Nociar.
Finally… yes, finally… shortly after 10 pm, when the time is deemed perfect and weather permitting, the CANADA DAY FIREWORKS will begin, thanks once again to members of our MIDWAY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.
SEE YOU THERE !
(PS… bring a chair, maybe a blanket or two)
